Department of population dynamics
Summary
The department’s work focuses on the comprehensive study of the structural and functional parameters of populations belonging to various taxonomic groups, the assessment of ecological niches, and the analysis of the distribution and changes in species ranges. Among the objects of analysis are palaeomycological complexes in their evolutionary relationship with modern species, various groups of animals, including rare and alien species, as well as cryptic diversity complexes within which both groups occur. Considerable attention is paid to studying the ecological interactions of alien species with the native biota, as well as analysing the status of rare species populations as indicators of ecosystem health. Among the department’s tasks is the identification of adaptations of model species to transformations of the natural environment caused by anthropogenic and climatic changes, including under synanthropic conditions. An important area of research concerns the impacts of war on species distribution and habitat conditions.
